The Ups and Downs of an Electric Stair Lift

Stuck on a floor? Have you incurred an injury or maybe just due to age it is getting very difficult to get up and down the stairs of your beautiful home. Adding an electric stair lift can make your home fully within your reach again. Many times, adding an electric stair lift removes the need to move to a new home, or maybe even delay the need to move into an assisted living environment.

An electric stair lift comes in two basic power configurations. The first is a full time AC powered electric stair lift. This lift will need to be constantly plugged into a wall outlet at either the top or bottom of your stairs. If you do not have an outlet near your stairs, you may need to have an electrician install one prior to the installation. An AC powered electric stair lift has the advantage of never needing to replace batteries, or needing to worry about the batteries being discharged right when you are needing to move between floors.

A battery powered electric stair lift will still require an outlet at the top or bottom of the stairs to keep the batteries charged and ready for action. You will have the added cost of the annual battery replacement. You can estimate about $50 to $75 for replacement batteries. While there is the risk of the batteries not being charged when you need the lift, this issue is completely under your control. You just need to plug it in when not in use. The big advantage to a battery powered electric stair lift comes during storms, or other unexpected power outages. Getting stuck upstairs away from your kitchen, front door, and other important things during a power outage could be a huge inconvenience. With battery powered lifts, you will be able to move between floors possibly as many as 10 to 15 times before the battery discharges. If your area is prone to thunderstorms, ice storms, or other sources of power outages, it is worth the extra money to get a battery powered electric stair lift.

Not only are electric stair lifts for your indoor staircases, if you have a staircase outside, leading up to your home or maybe to an apartment, you can find a weather resistant electric stair lift to move you up and down.

An electric stair lift does not impede other people from using the stairway. When the seat is folded up, they take very little room, allowing everyone to move around the house easily. The rail system is most commonly mounted directly to the stairs, very near the wall, to make sure the most possible width of the stairway is available for everyone.

Your electric stair lift is very safe, with the seatbelt, obstacle detection, and even the ability to manually descend in case of a power outage.

It is time for you to get up and down in your house by adding an electric stair lift. Total mobility is just a short ride away in your new electric stair lift.
